The basics

How to drive with Uber in the UAE
Uber is a great way to be your own boss and make money. Most people are eligible to drive with Uber. Here’s what you need to know if you’re driving in Dubai or Abu Dhabi.

Get Started 





















1. Sign up online

Got an email address and a smartphone? Great, now tell us a bit more about yourself and we’ll get you started.


2. Upload your documents

Time for some paperwork. There are a few documents we need to see.

If you are driving in Dubai:

  • Valid RTA Card*
  • Valid Emirates ID*
  • Valid RTA Registered Vehicle Mulkiya*
  • A driver profile photo
    • Must be a forward-facing, centered photo including the driver’s full face and top of shoulders, with no sunglasses
    • Must be a photo only of the driver with no other subject in the frame, well-lit, and in focus. It cannot be a driver’s license photo or other printed photograph

*It is compulsory to ensure that the employer listed on the Emirates ID is the same as on the RTA permit card and vehicle registration (Mulkiya).

If you are driving in Abu Dhabi

UAE nationals, as well as Expatriates, are allowed to drive with Uber in Abu Dhabi.

Documents required for UAE nationals in Abu Dhabi:

  • Valid Emirates ID
  • Driver license
  • Private vehicle registration
  • Valid vehicle insurance
  • Passport copy (first and last page)
  • Police Clearance Certificate
  • Medical Fitness Certificate
  • A driver profile photo
    • Must be a forward-facing, centered photo including the driver’s full face and top of shoulders, with no sunglasses
    • Must be a photo only of the driver with no other subject in the frame, well-lit, and in focus. It cannot be a driver’s license photo or other printed photograph
    • Must be a professional photo (i.e. passport photo; sized 4x6 inches)
    • Must be a photo of the driver wearing the national dress

Documents required for expat drivers under a Trans Abu Dhabi-registered limousine company:

  • Valid Emirates ID*
  • Trans Card / ITC permit*
  • Vehicle registration* under the same limousine company name
  • A driver profile photo

*It is compulsory to ensure that the employer listed on the Emirates ID is the same as on the ITC permit and vehicle registration (Mulkiya).

An expatriate applicant needs to be a limousine driver under a Trans Abu Dhabi-registered limousine company Visa to be eligible to get the Trans card.


3. Get a vehicle

Which car is right for you? Make sure it meets our standards in the United Arab Emirates, and remember that you’ll make more money if you keep your costs low.

4. Activate your account

If you’ve completed all the above steps, congratulations! You’re ready to activate your account and start making money.
